With their third and final selection of the night, the Orlando Magic selected Kentucky forward Jarred Vanderbilt with the 41st selection. Vanderbilt was traded to the Denver Nuggets in exchange for the 43rd pick, Maryland forward Justin Jackson.
Jackson missed all but 11 games last season due to a shoulder injury. In his freshman season at Maryland, Jackson averaged just over 10 points and six rebounds per game, while showing off a smooth shooting stroke from beyond the arc, shooting 40 percent on the season.
Jackson possess’ some intriguing tools, and his shooting is much needed for a Magic roster desperate for more shooting. He has some upside defensively, but will need to continue to work on that end of the floor, should he make the roster.
The former Terrapin could face an uphill battle to make the roster, especially after the selection of Melvin Frazier at 35. He could also see time with the Magic’s G-League team in Lakeland.
