Orlando Magic big man Gustavo Ayón made several brilliant plays in Orlando's 110-104 win against the Portland Trail Blazers on Sunday. The second-year player contributed everywhere, with 16 points, 11 boards, six assists, a steal, and a blocked shot, and he earned praise for his performance after the game.
But perhaps no play stood out more than the one he made in the clip above. The pass he made to a cutting Andrew Nicholson was so spectacular that the NBA named it the Assist of the Night.
Ayón is station on the right box as Magic point guard Jameer Nelson runs a pick-and-roll with the rookie Nicholson. Nelson dribbles to his right around the screen while Nicholson dives to the rim on the weak side of the floor. Nelson makes a bounce pass to Ayón, who then flips the ball--without looking--right into Nicholson's hands for a layup.
