The second-year Magic center earned a warning for flopping against Robin Lopez in Orlando's loss to New Orleans on Wednesday.

The NBA issued a flop warning to Orlando Magic big man Gustavo Ayón on Saturday, making Ayón the first Orlando player to earn such a warning since the league announced before the season a new policy designed to curb flopping. Specifically, the league busted Ayón for taking a dive against New Orleans Hornets center Robin Lopez during Orlando's loss on Wednesday.

At the 1:11 mark of the third quarter, Ayón battles Lopez for post position on the right block as the New Orleans center aims to establish himself. Trying to fend off Ayón, Lopez extends his right arm as he readies to catch with his left hand an entry pass from Greivis Vasquez. Ayón embellishes the contact between himself and Lopez and crashes to the floor. The officials made no call against Ayón or Lopez in game action, but the play resulted in free throws for Lopez anyway, as Magic guard E`Twaun Moore had to rotate from the strong-side corner in order to wrap the Stanford product up and prevent him from getting an easy dunk.

As this offense is Ayón's first, he will not be assessed a fine; his punishment is having the video of the play, from several angles, posted on NBA.com for the world to see. The league will fine Ayón $5,000 for his next offense, with increasing fines for each subsequent flop. The league has detailed the anti-flopping policy on its website.

Once again, the Magic struggled to get to the foul line and to control the ball in defeat.

The Orlando Magic fell to the New Orleans Hornets, 97-94, on Wednesday night for their third consecutive defeat, each by four points or fewer. The Hornets entered the game on an 11-game losing streak which had buried them in last place out West, but they prevailed on the strength of their inside game and by taking care of the ball.

In a slow game--the estimated 84.5 possessions was Orlando's fewest of the season--New Orleans committed only nine turnovers. Four of them happened in the fourth quarter, but the Magic were unable to capitalize on the Hornets' ill-timed sloppiness.

New Orleans' dominance in drawing fouls also helped it prevail on Wednesday, as the visitors went 19-of-20 from the stripe. They owe much of their success there to veteran center Robin Lopez, who went 11-of-12 on free throws en route to a 29-point outing.

Orlando shot a great 84.6 percent from the line, but on just 13 attempts. Without free throws to augment their offense, the Magic found themselves relying on crisp execution in order to get buckets. And as their 14 turnovers demonstrate, Orlando did not execute crisply, despite the Hornets' defense, which entered the game as the league's second-worst unit.

Ryan Anderson's return to Orlando turned out to be more favorable than expected. The former Magic power forward shared his reaction after the crowd at Amway Center cheered for him on Wednesday night's game.

Ryan Anderson returned to Amway Center to face the Orlando Magic for the first time since they traded him to the New Orleans Hornets in July. The former Magic power forward shared his reaction after the crowd at the Amway Center cheered for him on Wednesday night's game, a 97-94 victory for his club.

"It is hard to explain out on the court how you feel during that moment." Anderson said. "It is so cool. I want the people to know that I loved playing here and I hope they do know that. It was situation where i wanted to play the whole free agency thing to its fullest. I wanted to be a part of that and Orlando decided not to pick me up. It was situation where it was pulled out under me. It has been such a great transition for me. It is different, but it is a great opportunity."

Rookie power forward Anthony Davis said that he sees Anderson, whom coach Monty Williams named as one of the Hornets' three co-captains, as a mentor.

"He is great." Davis said. "He is awesome. Ryan is like my mentor right now. We play the same position and I listen to him when he is telling me things. He is helping me out along the way. He is a great person and a great player."

"The whole atmosphere, the court, it all really feels so familiar." Anderson said. "It is good to be back. You spend so much time here that it didn't feel like a new environment, it just felt like playing another game which was good. I am glad we got a win tonight. It is exciting."

Anderson is excited about the fact that it the Hornets ended their 11-game losing streak against his former team.

"Not only is it nice to beat the tram that traded me, but it is great for this team and the morale. " Anderson said.

The New Orleans Hornets snapped their 11-game losing streak against the Orlando Magic, who are now 0-3 without Glen Davis.

Though it was a close contest on Wednesday night against the New Orleans Hornets (6-22), the Orlando Magic (12-16) couldn't catch a break without Glen Davis. The Magic have are now 0-3 with Davis sidelined. Though it is a small sample size, you could say that Davis' absence is hurting the Magic's ability to get to the free-throw-line and to close out tight games. These last three losses have been decided in four points or fewer.

Jameer Nelson recorded his fourth double-double of the season along with a season- and team-high 28 points and 10 assists. He also made four of his eight three-point attempts. The team overall shot 11-of-30 from long-distance. Nelson led four other Magic players in double digits. Nikola Vucevic had 19, Arron Afflalo 14, J.J. Redick 12, and E`Twaun Moore (10).

But the Hornets outmatched the Magic's balanced scoring. Orlando had no way to stop Hornets 7-footer Robin Lopez. The former Stanford big man poured in a season- and a game-high 29 points, shooting 9-of-10 from the field and 11-of-12 from the free-throw line.

Orlando also didn't have an answer for Hornets point guard Greivis Vasquez as he picked the Magic apart in the pick-and-roll. He shot 12-of-21 and handed out eight assists. Though he finished with four turnovers, his team committed just nine on the game.

In Sunday's loss to the Utah Jazz, the Magic ended up turning the ball over 20 times. It looked as if Orlando valued the rock much better in the first half on Wednesday, but they lost control of the ball at a higher rate and committed 10 turnovers in the second half alone.

It has been a while since the Amway Center had its seats filled in a sell-out crowd of 18,846- though it's probably fair to assume that fans wanted to see Orlando native Austin Rivers, top overall draft choice Anthony Davis, and former Magic power forward Ryan Anderson.

Anderson faced his former team for the first time since it dealt him to New Orleans in a sign-and-trade agreement. Anderson fared well in his return, scoring 15 points on four-of-11 from the field. He made only one three-pointer on five attempts from downtown.

The Magic, overall, were pretty bad defensively, allowing 50 percent shooting to New Orleans. Their jumper-heavy offense, however, nearly made up for their lack of defense. Orlando shot 55.6 percent in the first quarter while allowing New Orleans to hit 66.7 percent. The field-goal percentage inflation was related to the Hornets getting Lopez off to a good start; the four-year veteran scored 14 of the Hornets' 26 points in the period.

Orlando next travels to our nation's capital to face the Washington Wizards on Friday at 7 PM.
