The 33-year-old forward is improving his conditioning as he works to return from a broken hand.

Orlando Magic forward Hedo Türkoğlu is making progress as he works to get back into game shape, reports Josh Robbins of the Orlando Sentinel. "My hand's about to be 100 percent soon," the 33-year-old said in reference to his left hand, which he broke in Orlando's season-opener on November 2nd. "So I feel more confidence and, hopefully, that will carry on for my playing, too."

According to Robbins, "it's unclear" when Türkoğlu might return to game action, "but it seems that time is nearing."

Türkoğlu missed 28 games in order to recover from the broken hand, and then returned to Orlando's lineup in a reserve role on December 29th. However, his conditioning had deteriorated during his time on the sidelines, and after an ineffective five-game return, he and the Magic mutually agreed it'd be best for him to take more time to regain his strength and conditioning.

With Türkoğlu sidelined for much of the season, Orlando has started Arron Afflalo, Maurice Harkless, DeQuan Jones, and Josh McRoberts at small forward, each with varying degrees of success. The Magic have won just twice in their last 17 games, and the losing is taking its toll on Türkoğlu, who has been with the Magic for eight seasons of his 13-year career. "It's been painful, man," he told the Sentinel.

A report says Türkoğlu could miss "an extended period" as he works himself back into game shape and further strengthens the hand he broke in Orlando's season-opening win.

Reserve forward Hedo Türkoğlu won't take the floor for the Orlando Magic on Saturday afternoon against the Los Angeles Clippers, reports Josh Robbins of the Orlando Sentinel, and he could miss "an extended period."

Türkoğlu broke his left (non-dominant) hand on November 2nd against the Denver Nuggets and underwent surgery the following day, during which procedure doctors inserted a metal plate and several screws into his hand. Türkoğlu then sat for 28 games in order to recover from the surgery, but it turns out he may have come back too quickly.

"In a sign of the discomfort he’s in, he often tests the hand by balling it into a fist and then straightening it," Robbins says. "His conditioning also has been an issue recently because there was a period during his recovery when he didn’t do any cardiovascular work."

Türkoğlu did not play in Orlando's loss in Denver on Wednesday and logged just five minutes in Monday's defeat against the Portland Trail Blazers.

In five appearances since returning to the lineup, Türkoğlu is shooting 25 percent from the field and averaging 3.6 points, three rebounds, and 2.6 assists. His absence will open up more playing time for rookies DeQuan Jones and Maurice Harkless.

As a precautionary measure, the veteran small forward didn't play in Orlando's loss to Denver on Wednesday.

Hedo Türkoğlu was the only healthy Orlando Magic player not to play in Wednesday's loss to the Denver Nuggets, and while the official boxscore for the game lists him as a Did Not Play-Coach's Decision, the real reason for his absence is his sore left hand, reports Josh Robbins of the Orlando Sentinel. The Magic and Türkoğlu mutually agreed before tipoff that the veteran forward would not play as he is still recovering from a broken left hand suffered in Orlando's opening-night win against Denver on November 2nd.

Türkoğlu underwent surgery to install a plate and metal screws in his hand the day after he broke it, and he returned to the lineup on December 29th against the Toronto Raptors. Since returning, however, he has sustained several hits on the hand. "After the game [Wednesday], he took off the protective wrap on his hand, flexed his hand, unflexed it and looked at it, as if he wasn't sure what it was about to do next," Robbins writes.

Since returning, Türkoğlu is averaging 3.6 points, three rebounds, and 2.6 assists in 20.6 minutes per game. The Istanbul native is shooting just 25 percent in that span.

The veteran forward will likely return from a 28-game absence on Saturday against Toronto.

Injuries have beset the Orlando Magic in recent weeks, but the team is due to receive good news on that front soon. John Denton of OrlandoMagic.com reports that Hedo Türkoğlu, who has missed Orlando's last 28 games with a broken left hand, will return to the lineup Saturday against the Toronto Raptors, his former team.

Türkoğlu travelled to the nation's capital for Friday's Magic loss to the Washington Wizards, which fact is notable because Türkoğlu had not attended road games with the team.

Türkoğlu first broke his hand in Orlando's season-opening victory against the Denver Nuggets as he fouled Denver forward Danilo Gallinari. He underwent surgery the next day, but suffered a setback in his recovery when he learned one of the screws placed in his hand had come loose.

Maurice Harkless is entrenched as the Magic's starting small forward, which position was Türkoğlu's when the season began. It's unclear how Türkoğlu's return might affect coach Jacque Vaughn's rotation, which remains in flux after the injury to Glen Davis, Orlando's most prolific offensive player.

The veteran forward is nearing his return from a broken left hand he suffered in Orlando's season opener.

The Orlando Magic may soon have a new addition to their forward rotation, as they've upgraded Hedo Türkoğlu to "doubtful" for their game against the Washington Wizards on Friday, reports Josh Robbins of the Orlando Sentinel, after Türkoğlu practiced in full on Thursday. "I know it's coming... It's going to be soon," Türkoğlu said of his return, according to Dan Savage of OrlandoMagic.com.

Türkoğlu has missed the Magic's last 27 games after breaking his left (non-shooting) hand in their season-opening win against the Denver Nuggets. Brian Schmitz reports that Türkoğlu will travel to Washington, D.C. with the team and that he could play.

Türkoğlu, 33, started at small forward in Orlando's season-opener. In his absence, coach Jacque Vaughn used DeQuan Jones, Josh McRoberts, and Arron Afflalo there before settling Moe Harkless. It's unclear what role Vaughn envisions for the Istanbul native going forward, but he did say Thursday that getting Türkoğlu back would be "a plus," according to Savage.

Now in his 13th season, Türkoğlu owns career averages of 12 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 3.1 assists.

The injured forward took in Friday's Magic game against Golden State in style.

Hedo Türkoğlu isn't healthy enough to play, having suffered a broken left hand in the Orlando Magic's first game of the season, but he's at least looking fly on the Magic's bench. Check out the ensemble he put together for Orlando's game against the Golden State Warriors on Friday night, which image the Fox Sports Florida crew did well to show.

Türkoğlu will return to the floor eventually, and John Denton of OrlandoMagic.com reported Thursday that he's begun doing dribbling drills with both hands.

He's kept busy in other ways as well, as he joined Glen Davis, Kyle O'Quinn, and other Magic representatives on Thursday in visiting the Florida Hospital for Children.

Orlando's outside shooting and ballhandling has suffered in Türkoğlu's absence, but its suit game has been on point.

The veteran forward broke his left hand in Orlando's first game and hasn't played since.

Hedo Türkoğlu left the first Orlando Magic game of the 2012/13 season with a broken left hand and hasn't played since, but the veteran small forward is making progress in his return to the court, writes John Denton of OrlandoMagic.com. Türkoğlu is leery of predicting when he might return, however.

"I hate to give timetables, but I’m just happy that my cast came off," Türkoğlu said Thursday. Doctors had to re-apply the cast to Türkoğlu's hand when they learned a screw inserted during the initial surgery had come loose, which discovery set Türkoğlu's recovery efforts back.

"I have started to do more stuff (in practice) with both hands," Türkoğlu said. "The timeline right now is to do more stuff with both hands and see how I feel and go from there."

Four different players have started at small forward in Türkoğlu's place, including DeQuan Jones and Josh McRoberts, both of whom have since fallen out of coach Jacque Vaughn's playing rotation. Maurice Harkless has occupied that position for the Magic's last 11 games.

Türkoğlu owns career averages of 12 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 3.1 assists. The Magic certainly miss his size, versatility, and outside shooting touch, but his absence has afforded Vaughn the opportunity to see what Harkless, a 19-year-old rookie, has to offer.

One of the five screws inserted in the Magic forward's broken left hand came lose, prompting doctors to re-apply the cast.

Orlando Magic forward Hedo Türkoğlu said Wednesday he's suffered a setback in recovering from the broken left hand he sustained in Orlando's season-opening victory against the Denver Nuggets, which setback will likely rule him out of action for another month, according to John Denton of OrlandoMagic.com.

Türkoğlu broke his non-dominant hand on a foul he committed against Denver forward Danilo Gallinari. He underwent surgery to insert five screws and a metal plate in that hand, but said Wednesday an x-ray showed one of the screws had come loose, says Denton.

"They put the cast back on for it to be more stable," Türkoğlu said. "I'm upset cause I hoped to come back sooner. Hopefully it won't take long."

Türkoğlu started at small forward for Orlando on opening night. He left that game in the third quarter and did not return, leaving Magic coach Jacque Vaughn scrambling to replace the 12-year veteran. Undrafted rookie DeQuan Jones got two starts in Türkoğlu's place, but has an injury of his own with which to contend. Vaughn then called on Josh McRoberts, a natural power forward, to start at small forward for two games. Orlando's current starting lineup features J.J. Redick at shooting guard, as Vaughn has slid Arron Afflalo from the two to the three.
