The veteran point guard is officially a game-time decision, but it looks as though he'll return to the Magic's lineup after a six-game absence.

The Orlando Magic may have Jameer Nelson back in their starting lineup Friday against the Detroit Pistons, ending a six-game absence for the veteran point guard. According to John Denton of OrlandoMagic.com, "indications are" Nelson will be back in uniform for Friday's contest, though coach Jacque Vaughn maintains the former All-Star is a "game-time decision." Josh Robbins of the Orlando Sentinel notes that Nelson was shooting baskets with J.J.
Jameer Nelson will miss his sixth straight game due to a right hamstring strain, Orlando Magic coach Jacque Vaughn said before Tuesday's tipoff against the undefeated New York Knicks. "If you talk to (Nelson) he'd say he could play tonight," Vaughn said, according to John Denton of OrlandoMagic.com. "But you're talking to me."

Orlando initially labeled Nelson a game-time decision for Tuesday's contest.

Nelson played 35 minutes in Orlando's season-opening victory against the Denver Nuggets, but has not played since. Orlando is 1-5 with second-year man E`Twaun Moore starting at the point, though Moore has exceeded expectations in Nelson's place. A scrap-heap free-agent signing of Orlando's Moore is averaging 13.5 points, four rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game while manning both guard positions.

Orlando won't play again until Friday, giving the nine-year veteran Nelson an additional two days to recover from the injury.

The Magic point guard, who hasn't played since the season-opener, could return to action Tuesday against the Knicks.

After a five-game rest to heal his strained right hamstring, Orlando Magic point guard Jameer Nelson is nearing his return to the court. Josh Robbins of the Orlando Sentinel reports coach Jacque Vaughn said, and Nelson himself reiterated, Tuesday that Nelson will be a "game-time decision" for that night's tilt against the visiting New York Knicks.

Nelson, a nine-year veteran, contributed nine points and seven assists in Orlando's season-opening victory against the Denver Nuggets on November 2nd. In the five games since, E'Twaun Moore has started in Nelson's stead. The combo guard has provided a good scoring punch, with 13.5 points per game, but hasn't been able to keep the team organized offensively, averaging a turnover for every assist in his starts.

After Tuesday's game, the Magic won't play again until Friday at the Detroit Pistons, giving Nelson an additional two days to recover from the injury.

Brooklyn and Orlando will each be missing a former All-Star when they square off Friday night.

The Orlando Magic and Brooklyn Nets will both find themselves shorthanded Friday night when they square off at Amway Center.

Orlando point guard Jameer Nelson will miss his fourth consecutive game as he recovers from a strained right hamstring, reports Josh Robbins of the Orlando Sentinel. John Denton of OrlandoMagic.com says the team lists the nine-year veteran as "day-to-day." E`Twaun Moore will continue to start in Nelson's stead. In his three starts, the Purdue product is averaging 14 points, 4.3 rebounds, and four assists per game.

On the Brooklyn side, the Nets have announced that former All-Star forward Gerald Wallace will miss the game as well due to a sprained left ankle. Former Magic player Keith Bogans will get his third consecutive start for Wallace.

A left-ankle injury could sideline another Net as well: MarShon Brooks sustained a sprain in Friday's shootaround, the Nets said, and is a "gametime decision."

Orlando Magic point guard Jameer Nelson has played in just one of his team's three games so far due to a hamstring strain, but Nelson said Tuesday that he's "making progress" as he tries to return from the injury.

"I'm making progress, just getting treatment and drinking lots and lots of water," Nelson said, according to John Denton of OrlandoMagic.com "I don’t want to set a timetable (on a return), but I’m just going to continue to treat it, be smart about it and listen to the training staff."

Nelson is unlikely to play in Wednesday's contest against the Minnesota Timberwolves, giving E'Twaun Moore his third consecutive start at point guard. Moore, a second-year player, has averaged 16 points, four rebounds, and four assists as a starter, shooting 54.2 percent from the field and a sizzling 85.7 percent on three-pointers.

E'Twaun Moore will once again start at point guard in place of the Magic's captain.

The Orlando Magic will be without starting point guard Jameer Nelson on Tuesday night against the Chicago Bulls, coach Jacque Vaughn announced following the morning shootaround, as the team captain has nagging groin and hamstring injuries which will force him to sit. His status for Wednesday's game against the Minnesota Timberwolves is also in doubt. Second-year pro E`Twaun Moore will start in Nelson's place.

Moore, 23, made the first start of his career in Nelson's place on Sunday and came through in a big way, scoring 15 points, dishing six assists, and sinking all three of his three-point attempts as Orlando blew out the Phoenix Suns, 115-94.

Nelson started Orlando's season-opening win against the Denver Nuggets on Friday, tallying nine points and seven assists. He was a late scratch from Sunday's game. According to John Denton of OrlandoMagic.com, Nelson hopes to be healthy enough to play in the weekend's home-and-home series against the Brooklyn Nets.

The nine-year veteran has a sore hamstring and groin, leaving the Magic without their best passer against Phoenix.

Jameer Nelson was a late scratch from Sunday's game against the Phoenix Suns due to soreness in his groin and hamstring. According to John Denton of OrlandoMagic.com, the Magic hope their decision to rest Nelson Sunday and on Orlando's off-day Monday will enable the nine-year veteran to play in back-to-back games Tuesday and Wednesday against the Chicago Bulls and Minnesota Timberwolves.

Second-year pro E'Twaun Moore earned the starting nod in Nelson's place, the first start of his career. Through the first half, Moore has tallied seven points, two assists, three steals, and two turnovers.

Nelson's absence complicates a Magic offense already missing, in starting small forward Hedo Türkoğlu, one of its better ballhandlers. Getting open shots against Phoenix has proven difficult through the first 24 minutes, as Orlando has shot just 36 percent from the floor. Phoenix leads, 56-46.
