J.J. Redick, Magic teammates take kids on holiday shopping spree

J.J. Redick, Josh McRoberts, and Andrew Nicholson took 75 children from the Central Florida Boys and Girls Club on a shopping spree Tuesday.

The Orlando Magic take seriously their commitment to the Central Florida community, which fact becomes clearly evident around the holiday season, when the Magic endeavor to brighten spirits throughout Orlando. Some players already visited patients at the Florida Hospital for Children to sign autographs and give gifts, and on Tuesday, that giving spirit continued as J.J. Redick, Josh McRoberts, and Andrew Nicholson teamed up with Pepsi to take 75 children from the Central Florida Boys and Girls Club on a shopping spree.

Redick, the most recent recipient of the Rich and Helen DeVos Community Enrichment Award, and his wife, Chelsea, donated $5,000 total to the Boys and Girls Club, according to OrlandoMagic.com scribe Josh Cohen. Pepsi made a $7,500 donation. Because of that generosity, each child on the shopping trip had a $100 gift card to spend.

"We want to make sure all these kids have a great Christmas and that they understand the importance of giving," Redick said. "I like to serve others. That’s a big part of who I am."
