Jameer Nelson is back on the basketball court. But don’t get too excited about the possibility of seeing him in uniform in the NBA Finals against the L.A. Lakers. Nelson started practicing with the team last week and will participate in team workouts Tuesday and Wednesday before a final decision is made about whether he will be activated for the Finals. [...] "I’m ahead of schedule, but that doesn’t mean that I want to play," Nelson said Monday. "I’ll have to see how I feel tomorrow. I have to wake up every day and see how I feel. "Every day I do my rehab and every day I feel a little better about myself and my strength and everything. But like I said, a miracle has to happen." Coach Stan Van Gundy said he wasn’t changing his game plans for the long shot possibility. "Jameer will practice as much as he can…We’ll see where we go from there," he said. "We’ve got a situation where a guy hasn’t done anything in four months and then he’s gonna have two practices. So we’ll just have to see.

General Manager Otis Smith told the Sentinel on Sunday that [Jameer] Nelson would only play if he passes "a litany of tests" and the club is comfortable with a decision that won't risk his future. [...] "It's up in the air. We'll see how Jameer looks the next few days," Smith said. "There's a few more things we have to get comfortable with. We're looking at the pros and cons. Doctors will have to talk to doctors. If we're at a place where Jameer can help us accomplish our goals, then maybe he can play and give us some more punch. "There's a litany of tests he'll have to pass. His health is the main thing. We're not going to mortgage his future."
