Shooting for the Stars: Westbrook addition

After waking up this morning I was probably just as shocked as everyone else with the Clippers news. The league is as a balanced as ever, at least for how long I have been following the NBA. OKC is an interesting place because continuing with just Russell Westbrook doesn't make much sense for their new timeline.

Westbrook is quite a personality, for better or for worse. The NBA is a superstar league and you really need a superstar (or really two) to win. Maybe Westbrook is the guy for Orlando can get for a reasonable price to be the superstar this team hasn't had since Dwight. Personally, I would prefer Bradley Beal but maybe Westbrook is a better price range and more realistic target if the Thunder decide to rebuild. I don't think Westbrook is the type of player this FO would be about, but you need to have stars in the league to have a shot.

The Trade:

Orlando: Timofy Mosgov, Aaron Gordon, Mo Bamba, 2021 first round pick

Oklahoma City: Russell Westbrook

With the league being so wide open Orlando adds their hat to the two star piece with Westbrook and Vucevic to become competitive in the East. In my opinion, Orlando would be right there with Boston. Orlando would still have a solid rotation and the Aminu signing would make a lot more sense. Even Birch could comeback with Bamba now being gone and a second Center being needed. I know Westbrook isn't the best team guy in the world but sometimes you just have to shoot for the stars.
