The NBA Draft is still over two months away, but on Wednesday in New York, the Magic were involved in a new kind of draft.

Magic Gaming, an eSports team representing the Orlando Magic, had the eighth pick in the inaugural NBA 2K League draft. With the pick, they drafted a hometown product, selecting Florida’s Christopher Cantrell, a point guard whose game tag is “KontruL.”

With their second round pick, the Magic selected Emmanuel Cruz (UCMANNY), a power forward from New York. They then added Bilal Almashni (SUPREME PULLER), a small forward from Illinois; Brian Traynor (NachoTraynor), a shooting guard from Ohio; Jorge Renteria (marley213s), a center from Arizona; and Cameron Ford (KingCamRoyalty), a power forward from Ohio.

The six-round draft, which had a snake format, came after a tryout that started in January. Teams had to use their first five picks to select a player at each starting position (PG, SG, SF, PF, C). The league, which has 17 teams, is set to kick off its inaugural season in May.
