A report has surfaced saying the Magic have been “quietly gauging” the trade market for Aaron Gordon.
According to Michael Scotto of “The Athletic,” Orlando is evaluating all possibilities with the February 8th trade deadline approaching.
The new regime of Jeff Weltman and John Hammond has left no stone unturned with the deadline approaching, including quietly gauging the trade market on Aaron Gordon, league sources told The Athletic.
Gordon is eligible for restricted free agency this summer, so Orlando could simply be doing due diligence.
The report does not go into specifics, and I’m somewhat dubious of clickbait considering “The Athletic” is fishing for subscribers.
But if true, prying the 22-year-old Gordon away from the Magic would likely require an All-Star in return and perhaps involve the inclusion of one of the bad contracts Orlando’s brass would like off the books.
With Gordon having improved across the board and headed for restricted free agency, the idea of the Magic trading him seems illogical. At 22 years old, and still with plenty of room for improvement, one would assume the Magic would be extra cautious in avoiding another Victor Oladipo-like situation.
