The Orlando Magic on Monday announced they have waived Marcus Georges-Hunt.
Georges-Hunt, 23, joined the Magic as a free agent in April. He made five appearances for the team in the 2016/17 season, averaging 2.8 points and 1.8 rebounds on 28.6 percent shooting in 9.6 minutes. He had previously been on the rosters of the Boston Celtics and Miami Heat, but never played for them.
Orlando’s offseason additions of Arron Afflalo, Wesley Iwundu, and Jonathon Simmons have cramped the wing, making even less room for Georges-Hunt, who already needed to contend for playing time with the likes of Evan Fournier, Terrence Ross, and Mario Hezonja.
Georges-Hunt may yet catch on with the NBA G-League; his NBA career isn’t over just yet. Orlando’s signing him was a low-risk move, but given Georges-Hunt’s meager productivity, one can’t fault the Magic for moving on.
According to Basketball Insiders, Georges-Hunt’s salary for the 2017/18 season was fully unguaranteed.
