NBA free agency 2017: Shelvin Mack picks no. 7 for Orlando Magic

Let’s hope he fares better than the last Orlando player to wear that number.

We don’t know how well Shelvin Mack, the Orlando Magic’s first free-agent addition of the offseason, will play over the course of his two-year deal. But at least we know what he’ll wear while he’s playing.

Orlando’s public-relations Twitter account posted Sunday that Mack will wear no. 7 with the Magic:

Of course, the last player to sport that number in Orlando pinstripes was Serge Ibaka, who played just 56 games for the Magic before they dealt him to the Toronto Raptors. Ibaka, of course, was Orlando’s splashiest addition in the summer of 2016, as the club surrendered former lottery pick Victor Oladipo, the veteran stretch-four Ersan Ilyasova, and the Draft rights to Domantas Sabonis in order to land him.

It’s safe to say Orlando fans hope Mack’s tenure goes more smoothly than Ibaka’s did.

Curiously, Mack has never worn no. 7 in his four previous NBA stops. His previous NBA numbers are no. 22 with the Washington Wizards; no. 14 with the Philadelphia 76ers; and no. 8 with both the Atlanta Hawks and the Utah Jazz.
