I saw an article from a Knicks blog questioning if NY could trade O'quinn for a first round pick and then they brought up a rumor from Mark Stein that Detroit is looking to move the #12 pick for a player to help their team....
I love O'quinn but clearly that is a pipe dream. But that got me thinking about Detroit. One of the problems their roster has is that Drummond is a liability in the 4th and our own Vuc is not, plus he would be a scoring punch off the bench.
I would propose this: Orlando gives the #35 pick and our 2018 2nd round pick and Vucevic for the #12 pick and Stanley Johnson and Aron Baynes.
I thought about throwing in Mario buy I couldn't make the salaries work and I'm willing to give him one more year to figure it out.
Decent deal or No?
Then I started thinking "Why don’t we trade back?" I’ve been thinking about this and looking at various mock drafts, I think that NY is still trying to decide how they will use Porzingis in the future but they know that they need a PG to help build around him. Plenty of mocks have Fultz, Ball, Jackson Taytum, and Fox going in different orders in the top 5. So when we get there at 6 in my mind there is only one PG left with possible allstar potential and thats Smith Jr. and i'm not ready to give up on Payton.
That being said I would take Smith and Augustin and trade them to the Knicks for #8 and #58 plus OQuinn, Ndour, and Baker to make the money work. Then the Timberwolves will take Monk and we can take Issac who has high ceiling but it will be some time for him to reach his potential. At #12 swing for the fences on Ike Anigbogu and hope he develops into a defensive monster. At #25 I would take Jawun Evans. Swanigan at #33 and with the #58th pick Peter Jok
We have plenty of youth to build on and one of the second round guys is going to pop. The others will give us a deep bench.
Line up could be:
Payton / Free Agent (Shaun Livingston) / Juwan
Fournier / Ross / Jok
Johnson / Mario / Issac / Ndour
Gordon / Issac / Swanigan
Biyombo / Oquinn / Ike Anibogu / Zimmerman
