Why choose, why not both?

CHANGE THE CORE

Hello OPP, this is just another hypothetical route to improve, retool, rebuild, etc your Orlando Magic. Seems like most here would love to be in position to draft J. Taytum, which now would mean trading up into the top 4 or even 3. Some feel like staying put at 6 and picking what falls to Orlando isn't much different. The draft obviously offers a lot. And in the Magic's case, offers a big OPPortunity to jumpstart a dead organization. All the other teams picking in the top 6/7, IMO, are looking better moving forward, as some of them already have nice building blocks, potential stars in place. Orlando is the one team that really has to swing for the fences to acquire a "potential" star to change the direction of the team. Everyone on the roster is tradeable, right? Not everyone except AG, no? Well here's a swing for the fence that would undoubtedly change things in the Magic Kingdom.

Let's begin with looking at the potential trade with Philly for the 3 spot. Say Philly has eyes for guys like Monk and D. Smith Jr. And Orlando new brass wants their guy in Jo. Jackson or J. Taytum. Swap picks and Orlando adds E. Fournier and MAYBE some future pick or something. It gives the 76ers a starting SG on a good contract and still allows them draft their guy to fill the PG spot for them. You plug Monk or Smith in at the 1 with Fournier, Simmons, Saric, Embiid and that starting lineup is money and ready to compete.

BUT Orlando takes Jackson instead of Taytum here, why...

Because then you have the Suns, who's looking for a more defensive SF to put next to D. Booker. With Jackson being the more defensive stud between he and Taytum, but off the board. Of course the Suns could just take Taytum but Orlando could send.....wait for it..........AG! Yes Aaron Gordon combined with maybe Hezonja or a nice future pick to pry the 4th pick. Suns get to tap into the potential of a lockdown defender that has major upside and another high upside wing.

Orlando then takes Taytum, giving them the two best wing prospects in the draft to guide the organization back to relevancy! That's swinging for the fences.

Now you have your SG AND SF of the future to build around! Complete the draft with big J. Jeanne and PG Jawun Evans or PG F. Jackson. Still have a lot of other adjustments to make with the roster, i.e., what to do with EP and/or Vuce, but new management has two players to actually build around.
