Let's assume you are the Magic GM after the Howard trade (there would be too many ifs, and it was an OK trade). What would you have done different? Keep Ryan Anderson? Not trade Harris? Keep Harkless and not trade for Payton? No matter what you do Orlando draft picks should be in the same spots where they actually happened. You can trade them, but if we start thinking "with Anderson our pick would have been worse", is too big an alternate universe to cope with. Also don't pick Giannis because no one was picking him top 5 at the time, it would be unrealistic. You can take Exum over Hezonja, Saric over Payton, but not a sleeper. Also don't trade Vuc and a 1st for Lebron please.
There is plenty of stuff to go around, but without changing too much Orlando could have had a core of Payton, Oladipo, Harkless, Harris, Gordon, Vuc, Dedmon, KOQ and a draft pick not traded for Ibaka. You could change Payton for Saric and a couple 2nd rounders if you will. But still, had Hennigan done a better Job we would still be a mediocre team with no spacing, going nowhere and with a worse draft pick this year. It's hard to contend without hitting the draft jackpot at least two times.
