After the abysmal performance against Phoenix, it's looking like the playoff dream is just that - a dream. Whilst it's hard to be too excited after another losing season, I think we do have a few reasons to be cheerful:
1) I'm not sure we have anyone on a demonstrably bad contract. Whilst we don't have a star, all of our players are tradable without having to give up picks etc just to get them out the door
2) we have an extremely young roster, with multiple players with clear upside. Whether they reach that potential is another matter, but there is hope
3) we will end up with a better record than last year. Slow progress after the blistering start, but progress nonetheless
4) we have cap space. Considerable cap space.
On a number of threads, with poor performances being a catalyst, there have been calls for FA signings. I thought it might be worth consolidating this into a succinct list where people can post up to three free agents that they would pursue, a salary they'd be willing to pay (that is potentially achievable), and a line or two of rationale. And then finally a few more lines to sum up the overall vision and plan. Each list of of players and plans as a new line and all praise /critiques below each!
There are no rules as to who they can be, but please keep them realistic. My view is that if you genuinely think Durant is attainable, the odds of greater than 100-1 should be a guide it's not too likely.... But I can't stop people dreaming, so if you want that as one of your three then feel free. Also, there's no obligation to go for all three or to use all the cap space available. The 2017 pool looks much deeper.
