So with another loss to Boston tonight we are 29 - 41 on the year with 12 games left and we are 12th I think in the East. The Playoffs are out and my prediction is we might only win two maybe 3 games the rest of the year. That would put us 32 - 50. A definite improvement from last year but not what most of us wanted.
Currently according to Real GM we only have a 1% chance getting the top pick but I ask the crazy question if you had your pick would it be Simmons or Ingram? Simmons once the unquestioned #1 had a poor finish and due to injuries his team didn't even make the big dance! Ingram meanwhile will likely have a more memorable finish.
Both players if they stay healthy and develop could be stars in the league for years to come so if you had your pick who would you take? Both play a position of need for us. I think Ingram might have a bigger impact on the game immediately because of his shooting, he also can fit with more teams schemes. Simmons perceived lack of shooting dictates, until his shots come, to surround him with shooters.
Ingram clearly needs to work on his body for the NBA to be durable he's 6'9" and 190 lbs. soaking wet. He is however barely 19 years old so plenty of time to grow. Simmons is a bit sturdier at 6'10" 225 lbs. Also he's 14 months older. He could work on his strength to help on the defensive end but he looks built to last!
I think the question for fans would be fit for now but most GM's look at ceiling and Simmons is higher IMO. At first glance I would say that Ingram might match best. He can be that go to scorer and has great length. However Simmons is the better passer and creator. Neither is that strong on Defense and both would be served by a C who can guard the paint.
I think today I would take Simmons. While his shooting isn't great yet when he starts consistently making 15 foot jumpers he will be a superstar. Also with creation I think we partially get bogged down for lack of passing and attention to opportunity. He posted for the season 19.2 PPG, 11.8 RPG, 4.8 APG and his assist would have been a ton better but his teammates often missed wide open looks. And we definitely could use the rebounds.
I can imagine him rebounding and then running in transition while hitting a streaking Oladipo or Gordon for a dunk!
So I ask the OPPers out there if some Magic happened...Would you take Simmons or Ingram? Post your answers and reasons below!
