Magic sign Appling to second 10-day contract

The Magic are keeping their reserve point guard around for another 10 days.

After his first 10-day contract ran out, Keith Appling will be sticking around with the Orlando Magic for at least another 10-days, with the team formally announcing they re-signed the point guard on Friday morning. Appling, who has appeared in two games for the Magic, is averaging three points across 7.5 minutes of action.

Keeping Appling gives the Magic some needed point guard depth with C.J. Watson still working his way back from a calf injury. Earlier this week, Orlando Sentinel reporter Josh Robbins reported that Watson is making progress in his return from a nagging calf injury, but would likely need time to get back into shape before returning. Watson, whom the team signed during the offseason, has missed 36 consecutive games due to the injury.

While Appling likely won't see much playing time, holding onto him is important, especially with the inconsistent play from current back up Shabazz Napier, along with injury issues for Elfrid Payton and Victor Oladipo over the last month.
