Magic's Mario Hezonja a role-player for Croatia in EuroBasket

The flashy swingman didn't play spectacularly in his first international competition since Orlando drafted him.

Croatia's quest for EuroBasket glory ended Sunday when it met a decisive 80-59 defeat against the Czech Republic in the first stage of the knockout round. Orlando Magic fans may have been watching the tournament closely for an early look at Mario Hezonja, the highly touted and high-scoring swingman Orlando selected fifth overall in the 2015 NBA Draft.

Hezonja didn't stand out in six appearances, but he didn't disappoint, either. All told, he tallied 6.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game and shot 41.2 percent from the floor.

Poor shooting from three-point range tanked Hezonja's efficiency: he hoisted 3.7 treys per game at 27.3 percent. There's no word yet on how, or if, Hezonja's performance in EuroBasket affects Jay Bilas' adoration for him.

In ACB play, Hezonja scored 4.8 points in 14.3 minutes per game for FC Barcelona in the 2014/15 season. He improved his scoring to 7.7 points in 16.5 minutes in Eurocup play.
