The Orlando Magic made another small addition to their roster Tuesday by signing free-agent forward Melvin Ejim. The team announced the news via a press release and, per policy, did not disclose terms of the contract.
Ejim went undrafted out of Iowa State in 2014. As a senior, the 6-foot-7 wing averaged 17.8 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game while shooting 50.5 percent from the floor, including 57 percent on two-point attempts.
Ejim subsequently inked a deal with Virtus Roma, for which club he averaged 8.1 points and 4.3 boards in Eurocup play. Most recently he played for the Magic's impressive White team in the Orlando Pro Summer League, notching 9.2 points and 6.8 rebounds per game.
It seems likely Orlando is bringing Ejim aboard to keep him in its pipeline after training camp: with his consent, he can join the Erie BayHawks, the Magic's minor-league affiliate, and play the season there while Orlando holds his NBA rights.
Ejim hails from Toronto, Ontario. His surname is pronounced "EDGE-um."
