I remember seeing some buzz in the last week that Scott Skiles might be able to lure Larry Sanders back into playing, and that it would be for the Magic. Saw this from Scott Kyler today... Alex in LakerLand Hey Steve, I can see where you were coming from on Larry Sanders. You were absolutely 1000% right what a great guy. He walked into a place that I work and he chatted with me for few minutes and took bunch of picture. He told me about his love for art and music – but he also said that he is playing Drew League. I guess he still wants to play basketball. Which brings me to my question – he is a fee agent right? since he was bought out by the Bucks – any chance the Lakers take a look at him? and any news on the Lakers rumors? The problem with Larry is he is so far into the NBA’s drug program that he can be tested at almost any time and that’s a massively intrusive thing. Imagine if you had to worry about peeing in a cup every week, and if you missed them or did not answer the phone you could be suspended or fined. Forget whatever might or might not be in your pee. If you miss a phone call you are suspended. They come to your house and you are at the grocery store and you are suspended. The issue most players have with the program is its not at all about helping you change your life at Larry’s level, its about trying to catch you again and that is a burden Larry simply does not want to deal with. Add in that I don’t think Larry is at the point in his life where his lifestyle is going to change, I don’t think he’s ready to be a NBA player again. Not wanting to be in the drug program isn’t about wanting to use drugs — its about wanting to have the privacy of your life back and that will take time for him to come to terms with that. No one is to blame for it but Larry, but its not as simple as "I want to play" and the slate is clean, he still has to cycle through the drug program. I think Larry will play again, but I don’t think it will be this year.
