Two weeks after selecting swingman Mario Hezonja with the fifth pick in the NBA Draft, the Orlando Magic inked the rookie to his first contract. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not announced.
Hezonja, 20, played two games for the Magic during the Orlando Summer League, averaging 13 points and 2.5 rebounds per game. The rookie showed off all aspects of his game, including hitting a game winning three-pointer in the tea,s first game of the week.
The 6-foot-8 Hezonja recently finished a season in Spain, playing for powerhouse Barcelona. In 31 regular season games, Hezonja averaged 4.7 points, 1.9 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game. In 22 Euroleague appearances, Hezonja averaged 7.7 points and two rebounds per game.
Hezonja will likely enter training camp as the Magic's third shooting guard, and, possibly, backup small forward. With a crowded wing, it's possible the rookie could see very limited playing time, especially early in the season.
