The NBA Draft is nearly upon us, so what better time to gauge the Orlando Pinstriped Post community's ranking of favorite prospects? That's right: the OPP community Draft board has returned.
Orlando Magic fans voted Monday to place Ohio State guard D'Angelo Russell at the third spot on the board.
As a freshman, Russell led the Buckeyes in both scoring (19.3 points per game) and in rebounding (5.7 per game), a rare feat for a 6-foot-5 guard. He also tallied five assists and 1.6 steals per contest, ranking second on the team. While those numbers indicate above-average athleticism, Russell's more than merely a monstrous athlete: he can stroke a jumper as well, as he connected on 41.1 percent of his three-pointers while taking 6.6 per game.
The Magic are set in the backcourt after adding Victor Oladipo and Elfrid Payton in the last two Drafts, but if the opportunity to trade up for Russell presented itself, Orlando might just have to consider making such a deal.
Russell dominated a strange vote, taking 61 percent of the total to trounce Willie Cauley-Stein, the runner-up who garnered 22 percent of the votes. For much of the day, Cauley-Stein held a comfortable edge in the ballotting.
In the poll attached to this post, please vote for the NBA Draft prospect who should rank fourth on the Magic's Draft board. We acknowledge that the Magic won't pick until fifth, but we nonetheless want to gauge which Draft prospects Orlando fans value most highly, regardless of their team's Draft position.
Having reiterated the rules, let's vote! The poll closes at midnight Wednesday. We'll reveal the winner and keep the voting rolling daily as often as we can leading up to the Draft on June 25th.
