The Orlando Magic will celebrate their past when they honor Shaquille O`Neal on Friday night, but there's a game to play as well: the Detroit Pistons, led by former Magic coach Stan Van Gundy, are in town.
Tipoff between Orlando and Detroit is set for 7:00 PM Eastern. Fox Sports Florida and ESPN 580 AM will offer live coverage in the Orlando market.
Orlando's last time out: Orlando looked to be well on its way to upsetting the Atlanta Hawks, the East's best team, on Wednesday night, but they faltered in the fourth quarter en route to a 95-83 defeat. All-Star forward Paul Millsap scored nine points in a 24-3 Atlanta run in the final period, during which they wrested control of the game for good. Elfrid Payton led Orlando with 19 points and seven assists.
Detroit's last time out: The Pistons picked up their third straight victory Tuesday, upsetting the Toronto Raptors by a 108-104 final in Auburn Hills. The young backcourt of Reggie Jackson and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope erupted for a combined 54 points, 11 rebounds, nine assists, and no turnovers, while Andre Drummond dominated to the tune of 21 points and 18 boards.
The last meeting: The Pistons topped the Magic in a defense-optional affair in January, 128-118, albeit with a significantly different group. Brandon Jennings, now out for the season with a torn left Achilles', scored 24 points with a whopping 21 dimes to lead Detroit. In a losing effort, Nikola Vucevic posted 26 points and 15 rebounds. Tobias Harris scored 19 off Orlando's bench.
