Magic vs. Lakers: Orlando opens the James Borrego era

Borrego makes his Magic coaching début as Orlando hosts the Lakers.

The Orlando Magic open a new chapter Friday against the Los Angeles Lakers as James Borrego coaches the team for the first time; Orlando tabbed him to replace Jacque Vaughn, whom it dismissed Thursday.

Tipoff between Orlando and Los Angeles is set for 7:00 PM. Fox Sports Florida and ESPN 580 AM will offer live coverage in the Orlando market.

Orlando's last time out: The Magic's losing streak reached 10 games against the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday despite one of their better performances in recent memory. Nikola Vucevic posted 25 points and 13 rebounds, while Tobias Harris scored 23 wih 10 boards, but the Spurs took a 110-103 victory. Tim Duncan turned back the clock with 26 points and 10 boards, while the wings surrounding him bombed the Magic with 14 three-pointers.

Los Angeles' last time out: The Lakers fell to the Milwaukee Bucks, 113-105, in overtime Wednesday on the road. Off the bench, Carlos Boozer posted 28 points and nine rebounds, while Ed Davis corralled 20 boards. Four Bucks scored 20-plus points, with Giannis Antetokounmpo setting a new career-best with 25.

The last meeting: Six Lakers reached double-figures as L.A. rolled to a 101-84 victory over the Magic on January 9th. Jeremy Lin led L.A. with 18 points and six assists in reserve, while Boozer scored 12 with 14 rebounds in the rout. Victor Oladipo paced the Magic with 17 points. Orlando shot just 39.5 percent from the floor and committed 16 turnovers.
