The Orlando Magic officially parted ways with coach Jacque Vaughn early Thursday afternoon. Less than two hours later, the former coach released a statement, via the team, reacting to the news.
"I would like to thank Mr. DeVos and family for the opportunity of representing the Orlando Magic as head coach," said Vaughn, referring to the Magic's ownership group. "I am a stronger and wiser man and coach because of the opportunity. I look forward to seeing this group continue to grow. God bless, good luck."
He closed his message with scripture from Proverbs, specifically chapter 3, verses 5 and 6. According to an online edition of the King James Bible, those verses read as follows:
Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
No matter what's next for Vaughn, his kindness and relentless positivity will certainly serve him well. Another coaching gig could even be in the cards: According to Yahoo! Sports scribe Adrian Wojnarowski, it's a possibility despite Vaughn's less-than-stellar showing with Orlando.
"Many believe Vaughn could still become a good coach in the NBA," says Wojnarowski, "but he might’ve needed a longer apprenticeship as an assistant coach than he had under Gregg Popovich in San Antonio."
