For the second straight season, the Orlando Magic will have a representative in the Taco Bell Skills Challenge during All-Star Saturday night.
On Thursday, rookie point guard Elfrid Payton, who's in New York for the BBVA Compass Rising Stars Challenge on Friday night, was announced as replacement for Philadelphia 76ers guard Michael Carter-Williams, who will miss the weekend due to a sore right foot. Payton's teammate, Victor Oladipo, participated in the event last year with Carter-Williams, and is slated to take part in the Sprite Slam Dunk Contest on Saturday night.
Payton becomes just the third Magic player to be selected to the event, joining Oladipo and former point guard Jameer Nelson, who was slated to participate in 2009 prior to injuring his shoulder. If Payton wins, he will become the first Magic player to win the event, and the second Magic player to win an event on Saturday night, joining Dwight Howard, who won the 2008 Slam Dunk Contest.
