It's not exactly Moses Malone's infamous "fo', fo', fo'," guarantee, but Orlando Magic swingman Evan Fournier offered some strong words Friday as his club prepares to visit Flamengo, the defending FIBA Intercontinental Cup champions, in an exhibition contest, Saturday at HSBC Arena.
"We’re not going to lose this game," said Fournier, according to John Denton of OrlandoMagic.com. "We represent the NBA – the best league in the world."
Fournier may have a point: Flamengo is 0-3 against NBA competition, including a 106-88 loss to the Magic in the 2014 preseason at Amway Center. However, Saturday's game marks the first time Flamengo will host an NBA team. Playing on Flamengo's home court could put this young Magic squad at a disadvantage, especially when one considers its 12-29 record away from home in the 2014/15 campaign.
We'll see if Fournier can back up his words Saturday at 5:00 PM, when Orlando and Flamengo tip off on NBA TV.
