For the second time in three seasons, the Orlando Magic will have two representatives in the Rising Stars Challenge.
The NBA announced Wednesday the rosters for the 2015 event, and they feature Magic guards Victor Oladipo and Elfrid Payton on the U.S. squad. Previous Rising Stars Challenges pit rookies against sophomores, but the 2015 event has a twist: the best first- and second-year players from the U.S. will take on the top rookies and sophomores from foreign countries.
In his second season, Oladipo has improved tremendously as an offensive player, averaging 16.5 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 3.8 assists on 54.6 percent True Shooting. The Indiana product was already headed to All-Star Weekend; he will participate in the Slam Dunk contest on All-Star Saturday Night, as the league announced Tuesday.
Payton, a rookie, has appeared in all 48 of Orlando's games, including 29 starts. He's averaging 7.8 points, 3.6 rebounds, 5.8 assists, and 1.5 steals.
Golden State Warriors assistant coach Alvin Gentry will helm the U.S. squad.
The 2015 Rising Stars Challenge is set for Friday, February 13th, at 9 PM Eastern. TNT will televise the game.
