The Orlando Magic on Monday lost a member of their front office when the Detroit Pistons announced the hiring of Brian Wright. He will serve as assistant general manager under Stan Van Gundy, who will also coach the team.
Wright, who earned his Master's in Business Administration from the University of Central Florida, had spent the last eight seasons with Orlando, holding the title of Director of Collegiate Scouting for the last two. He thus has a working relationship with Van Gundy, who coached the Magic from 2007/08-2011/12.
Wright's Orlando responsibilities weren't limited to scouting, however. He also "serv[ed] as the conduit between players and management" and "provid[ed] assistance to the players on and off the court," according to the Magic's media guide.
