The Orlando Magic may be interested in signing Detroit Pistons big man Greg Monroe to an offer sheet during the NBA's free-agent period, which officially gets underway Tuesday at midnight. That rumor comes from Marc Stein of ESPN.com, who also lists the Atlanta Hawks as a potential Monroe suitor.
The Pistons made Monroe the seventh overall pick in the 2010 NBA Draft. The Georgetown product owns career averages of 14 points, nine rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.2 steals.
As Monroe is a restricted free agent, Detroit will have the right to match any offer he signs with another club.
The Magic cleared nearly $7 million off their books Monday by waiving both Doron Lamb and Jameer Nelson. It's possible they could use their cap space on a free agent or hoard it for a run at marquee player the 2015 class, which includes All-Star big men LaMarcus Aldridge and Marc Gasol.
