The Orlando Magic hosted Shabazz Napier and Elfrid Payton for a pre-Draft workout Wednesday, reports Michael Scotto of SheridanHoops.com.
In his senior season at Connecticut, Napier averaged 18 points, 5.9 rebounds, 4.9 assists, and 1.8 steals while shooting 44.8 percent from the floor, helping to lead the Huskies to a national championship. In the title-clinching game over Kentucky, Napier tallied 22 points, six rebounds, six assists, and three steals, leading or tying for the team lead in each of those statistical categories. For his efforts throughout the season, Napier also earned Consensus All-American First Team honors.
Payton, from Louisiana-Lafayette, shot 50.9 percent from the floor in his junior season and averaged 19.2 points, six rebounds, 5.9 assists, and 2.3 steals. On the season, the 20-year-old prospect led the Ragin' Cajuns in scoring, assists, and steals while ranking second in rebounding.
The Magic own the fourth and 12th overall picks in the 2014 NBA Draft, but do not have any second-round selections. Given Jameer Nelson's age--the 10-year veteran turns 33 in February--and Victor Oladipo's uneven play at the point in his rookie season, finding a lead guard is arguably Orlando's top offseason priority.
