In a message accompanying a video he posted on his Instagram page, Romero Osby said Wednesday he will attend the 2014 Orlando Pro Summer League as a member of the Orlando Magic.
"Proud to announce I will be back with the Orlando Magic for the Orlando NBA Summer League and hopefully further!" Osby said. He also expressed gratitude to Magic fans "for reaching out to me and supporting me even though I wasn't with their team."
UPDATE: through a team spokesman, the Magic have confirmed to Orlando Pinstriped Post that Osby will indeed join the team for Summer League.
The Magic made Osby, a 6-foot-8 forward, the 51st overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft. In five games for Orlando's Summer League squad the next month, the former Oklahoma Sooner averaged 11 points and 4.4 rebounds on 50 percent shooting from the floor. Osby made a push for the Magic's final regular-season roster spot throughout training camp and the preseason, but Orlando elected to keep Solomon Jones instead.
After waiving Osby, Magic general manager Rob Hennigan said the Magic would continue to monitor his career. "We'll continue to stay close with Romero and follow him closely throughout the next several months and beyond," he said.
The Maine Red Claws, the Boston Celtics' NBA D-League affiliate, traded for Osby's rights after the Magic waived him. A shoulder injury limited him to 12 appearances.
