After a disappointing 0-3 week last week, the Orlando Magic are 19-48, which continues to be the third-worst record in the NBA. The Magic are 3.5 games ahead of the Philadelphia 76ers and 3 games behind the Utah Jazz and Boston Celtics. It's also possible that the Magic could be mathematically eliminated from playoff contention this week, as they trail the eighth-seed Atlanta Hawks by 11.5 games with 15 games remaining.
Orlando has the worst road record in the league at 4-30, which bodes ominously for them as all four of their games this week will be on the road. Here is the schedule for their four-game Western roadtrip:
Tuesday, March 18th: Magic at Golden State Warriors, 10:30 PM Eastern, Fox Sports Florida
The Warriors are 42-26 after their thrilling, come-from-behind victory at the Portland Trail Blazers, 113-112, Sunday night. Guards Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson combined to score 64 points. Golden State is currently the sixth seed in the West, but still has a chance to gain home-court advantage in the first round, as they trail the fourth-seeded Houston Rockets by three games.
The Warriors will be going for the season sweep, as they won in Orlando, 94-81, on December 31st with power forward David Lee scoring 22 points.
Wednesday, March 19th: Magic at Phoenix Suns, 10:00 PM Eastern, Fox Sports Florida
The surprising Suns, at 38-28, are still very much alive in the playoff chase out West, as they trail the eighth-seeded Memphis Grizzlies by just one game.
The Suns will be going for the season sweep as they won in Orlando, 104-96, on November 24th. Point guard Goran Dragić scored 23 points along with 13 assists. He leads the Suns by averaging 20.6 points and 6.1 assists per game.
Saturday, March 22nd: Magic at Jazz, 9:00 PM Eastern, Fox Sports Florida
The Jazz, losers of nine of their last ten games, are 22-45 with the worst record in the Western Conference. Rookie point guard Trey Burke, whom some Magic fans wished the Magic would have drafted instead of Victor Oladipo, continues to struggle with his shooting, as his True Shooting Percentage of 47.7 percent attests. Burke does have a terrific assist/turnover ratio of 5.4 assists to 1.8 turnovers, while averaging 12.7 points per game.
The Jazz will be going for the season sweep, as the Magic put up a dismal performance in Orlando in a 86-82 loss on December 28th, with Burke going off for 30 points and eight assists.
Sunday, March 23rd: Magic at Los Angeles Lakers, 9:30 PM Eastern, Fox Sports Florida
The struggling, injury-plagued Lakers are 22-44, just a half-game ahead of the Jazz in the West. The Lakers allow 108.4 points per game, which is the second-worst figure in the NBA, ahead of only the 76ers. Veteran big man Pau Gasol leads the team, averaging 17.7 points and 9.8 rebounds per game, while shooting guard Jodie Meeks has been a pleasant surprise for the Lakers, averaging 16.8 points per game on 60 percent True Shooting.
The Magic will be going for the season sweep, as they defeated the Lakers, 114-105, in Orlando on January 24th, with Tobias Harris having a big game of 28 points along with 20 rebounds.
