The news that Arron Afflalo and Victor Oladipo would take part in two separate All-Star Saturday Night events at All-Star Weekend no doubt delighted Orlando Magic fans. Unfortunately, according to the oddsmakers at Sportsbook.com, neither Magic player stands much of a chance of winning his respective event.
To wit: Oladipo's 10-1 odds in the Skills Challenge are the worst of anyone in the eight-man field. Meanwhile, Afflalo faces 7-1 odds in the Three-Point Contest, ahead of only Brooklyn Nets swingman Joe Johnson at 8-1.
In the Skills Challenge, Vegas favors Portland Trail Blazers point guard Damian Lillard to repeat as champion, giving him 3-1 odds. Toronto Raptors swingman DeMar DeRozan, surprisingly, has the second-best odds at 9-2.
Vegas favors Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry, at 5-2, to win the Three-Point Contest. Minnesota Timberwolves power forward Kevin Love, who won the 2012 shootout in Orlando, isn't far behind at 3-1. Perhaps owing to his pedestrian 35.1 percent mark on three-pointers, Vegas isn't bullish on Kyrie Irving's chances of repeating as Three-Point champion, giving him 11-2 odds.
The All-Star Saturday Night festivities start on February 15th at 8 PM Eastern on TNT. The evening starts with the Sears Shooting Stars competition, continues with the Skills Challenge and Three-Point Contest, and closes with the Slam Dunk contest. Kendrick Lamar will perform a set prior to the Slam Dunk.
