Trade rumors involving the Orlando Magic have slowed on the day of the NBA trade deadline, but one note has emerged. According to Steve Kyler of Basketball Insiders, the Magic "have continued to talk deals" involving Glen Davis and Jameer Nelson, their two former co-captains.
Davis, 28, is posting per-game averages of 12.1 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 1.6 assists on 45.3 percent shooting. According to ShamSports' salary database, he is owed $6.6 million in the 2014/15 season, the last year of his contract. Davis left Orlando's loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday with a sore Achilles', sparking speculation that Orlando had found a trade parter willing to acquire the seventh-year big man.
Nelson, 32, is averaging 12.7 points and a team-best 6.7 assists on 39.9 percent shooting. Though Nelson has declined in recent seasons, he still offers solid playmaking skills, outside shooting, and veteran leadership. ShamSports notes that only $2 million of his $8 million salary for 2014/15 is guaranteed, which contract provision may offer further incentive for potential suitors looking to cut costs.
The NBA trade deadline is Thursday at 3 PM Eastern.
