NBA power rankings: Playoff-contending Orlando Magic on the rise, says SB Nation

Orlando's record won't bowl anyone over, but it could qualify for the postseason in the weak East, one analyst says.

The NBA season is more than one-quarter over, so it's not unreasonable to start trying to form a playoff picture. In his latest NBA power rankings post for SB Nation, Drew Garrison does just that, and he believes the Orlando Magic could qualify for a postseason spot after a two-year absence.

"Tobias Harris is having a career season while putting on late-game heroics," says Garrison. "There's a chance the Magic jump over Brooklyn for a trip to the playoffs."

Through Monday's games, the Magic trail the Brooklyn Nets by 2.5 games for the East's final playoff seed. But given that Orlando has played a murderous, road-heavy schedule--its 18 away games lead the NBA--it stands to reason that it'll win more games as it plays more frequently at Amway Center.

Overall, the Magic's performance in the previous week was enough for Garrison to nudge them up one spot, to 21st overall. The Boston Celtics, immediately behind Orlando in Garrison's rankings, host the Magic on Wednesday night.
