The first week of the Orlando Magic's season didn't go as well as they might have hoped: Orlando dropped each of its first three games by an average of 12.3 points per. And yet it could be worse, at least according to Drew Garrison, who ranks the Magic 27th in his most recent NBA power rankings post for SB Nation.
As Garrison notes, 27th is the highest spot for any of the league's four winless teams, and he shouts out rookie point guard Elfrid Payton "for a solid 16-point, nine assist line in his third NBA game." Our man Zach Oliver had more on Payton's strong performance in this notebook.
Before the season began, Garrison pegged Orlando 29th in the league, ahead of only the Philadelphia 76ers. In this latest edition, the Detroit Pistons, Los Angeles Lakers, and Sixers round out the bottom three teams.
