In early June, the Orlando Magic will allow Al Harrington to work out for other teams, reports Alex Kennedy of HOOPSWORLD. The veteran big man simply isn't in the rebuilding Magic's plans, and they want to allow him to showcase his skills for other teams before trading him or buying him out.
Harrington has two seasons, worth more than $7 million each, remaining on his contract, according to ShamSports. However, only 50 percent of each season is fully guaranteed. Orlando hopes to trade Harrington, Kennedy says, but will try to buy him out if he doesn't garner interest from other teams. Both parties would prefer a trade.
As Kennedy notes, some people around the league expected Harrington to seek medical retirement during the 2012/13 season due to complications from an operation to treat a staph infection in his right knee. Harrington instead managed to work his way back to basketball shape and he appeared in 10 games for Orlando before it benched him in order to give more minutes to its younger players.
Though a trade of Harrington is unlikely, Kennedy says, "it seems that Orlando is at least open to letting interested teams get a look at Harrington and he’s been working hard on his body since the season ended for the Magic."
