Nik Vučević put together a surprisingly strong 2012/13 season: his 11.9 rebounds per game ranked second in the league, and he added 13.1 points on 51.9 percent shooting. The growth he showed earned him a fourth-place finish in Most Improved balloting, and the Orlando Magic can continue their rebuild with the luxury of a highly skilled 22-year-old seven-footer.
But that rebuild will not necessarily include Vučević. "[H]e's not considered totally untouchable to the Magic," the veteran scribe said Tuesday. "At least not if you're offering a star in the exchange."
Schmitz does not indicate that Orlando is actively looking to move Vučević, but it's clear that the right offer could pry him loose. Vučević is under team control until the summer of 2015, when he'll become a restricted free agent and will almost certainly command an annual salary in the low eight-figure range.
