The Philadelphia 76ers and Orlando Magic played a hideous basketball game on Monday night, one in which the host Sixers emerged victorious, 78-61, to deal Orlando its 10th consecutive defeat. Philly got 21 points and 14 boards from Spencer Hawes, while All-Star point guard Jrue Holiday contributed 13 points and 14 assists. The Magic, who had just nine available players, shot 33.8 percent from the floor and were led by second-year combo guard E`Twaun Moore, who finished with 18 points on 9-of-17 shooting.

Green denotes a stat better than the team's 2012/13 average; red denotes a stat worse than the team's 2012/13 average. |
All the red in the table above demonstrates why Monday's game was so difficult to watch. That Orlando struggled everywhere is to be expected, given that it was without its four leading scorers. Philly owns the league's second-worst offense, but still should have been able to do more against Orlando, which has played porous defensively since its surprising 12-13 start to the season.
Indeed, the Magic's shortcomings were sharp and comprehensive: the team couldn't make a shot from inside the arc or beyond it, couldn't get to the foul line, couldn't rebound enough of its copious misses, and couldn't control the ball at an acceptable rate.
Given that both teams are on pace to break the NBA's record for fewest free-throw attempts in a single season, that the squads combined for only 13 tries in Monday's game isn't a surprise. And, in some ways, it's a blessing: the game lasted just one hour and 51 minutes.
