The Orlando Magic and New York Knicks have discussed a trade that would send Magic guard J.J. Redick to the Knicks for guard Iman Shumpert, reports Alex Kennedy. The HOOPSWORLD scribe says that other players, or even teams, would need to join the deal to make it work. No trade between Orlando and New York is imminent, says Kennedy, but the situation bears monitoring.

Redick has spent his entire career, now in its seventh season, with the Magic. He's averaging 15.3 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 4.4 assists in 31.6 minutes per game in 2012/13; all of those figures are career-bests for the Duke product. His three-point mark of 40.2 percent leads Orlando. He will become an unrestricted free agent on July 1st.

Shumpert, 22, is in his second season out of Georgia Tech and has seen his role diminish, though the fact that he didn't play at all until mid-January owing to offseason surgery on his left knee can account for his per-game minutes decreasing from 28.9 as a rookie to 19.2 as a sophomore. He's averaging 5.3 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.5 assists on just 33.8 percent shooting.
