The Orlando Magic announced Monday their plans to honor Dennis Scott during Friday's game against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Scott is the latest figure from team history the team has chosen to honor in its 25th anniversary season, joining Tracy McGrady, Nick Anderson, Pat Williams, and Jim Hewitt.
The first 2500 fans in attendance Friday will receive a commemorative photograph, measuring eight by 10 inches, of Scott and Magic point guard Jameer Nelson. Scott will also join Paul Kennedy and Anderson on Magic Live, the Fox Sports Florida pregame show. In addition, Scott will appear with David Steele and Jeff Turner on the Fox Sports Florida telecast of Friday's game. Tipoff against the Cavaliers is set for 7 PM.
The Magic made Scott the fourth overall pick in the 1990 NBA Draft. In seven seasons with the Magic, Scott scored 6603 points, which figure ranks eighth in team history. Scott remains the team leader in three-point field goals made, draining 981 triples at a 40.3 percent clip in his time with Orlando. On April 18th, 1996, the man nicknamed 3-D made 11 three-pointers in a victory against the Atlanta Hawks, setting a single-game NBA record for treys. Only five players since have met or exceeded Scott's mark, with Kobe Bryant and Donyell Marshall co-owning the new record of 12 threes.
