Orlando Magic swingman Arron Afflalo will miss his team's game against the Utah Jazz on Wednesday with an illness, coach Jacque Vaughn said in his pregame meeting with the media at Amway Center. Tobias Harris will start at small forward in Afflalo's stead.
"In layman's terms, he's sick," Vaughn said of Afflalo. "I talked to our trainer this morning and instead of getting him around the guys, we sent him to the doctor." Vaughn said Afflalo, the NBA's 10th-leading scorer, is "in quarantine" at present. The Magic deactivated him and promoted Solomon Jones to the active roster.
Afflalo is averaging 21.6 points, 4.7 rebounds, and four assists per game on 59 percent True Shooting.
"I'll tell the guys before the game I'm not asking them to do anything more [or] anything less than they've done thus far," Vaughn said of adjusting to playing without Afflalo. "No one has to force shots or think they're gonna get additional shots. We'll play how we play and do what we do."
Harris will make his first start of the season in Afflalo's place. In four appearances in 2013/14, Harris has averaged 7.3 points and 4.3 rebounds per game on 32.3 percent shooting. In 20 starts for the Magic in 2012/13, the Tennessee product averaged 17.5 points and 9.3 rebounds.
