Orlando Magic swingman Arron Afflalo played some of the best basketball of his life last week, averaging 26.3 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 5.7 assists on 59 percent shooting as the Magic went 1-2. Given his impressive play, which included a career-high 36 points in a win over the Milwaukee Bucks, it's no surprise that he was under consideration for Eastern Conference Player of the Week honors.
However, the NBA gave the honor to Miami Heat forward LeBron James. The three-time Most Valuable Player averaged 34 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 3.3 assists on 70.2 percent shooting to lead the defending champions to a 3-0 record.
Monday's Player of the Week award is the 44th such honor for James. Afflalo has yet to capture any weekly or monthly NBA awards in his career, now in its eighth season.
Afflalo's Magic take on James' Heat twice in the next week.
The East's other nominees were Jeff Teague of the Atlanta Hawks and Luol Deng of the Chicago Bulls.
Los Angeles Clippers power forward Blake Griffin captured Player of the Week honors out West.
