The Orlando Magic host the New Orleans Pelicans on Friday to open the home portion of their 25th-season schedule.
Tipoff between Orlando and New Orleans is set for 7 PM Eastern on Fox Sports Florida and ESPN 580 AM in Orlando. The Orlando Pinstriped Post GameThread will appear at 5 PM in this StoryStream and on the cover.
Orlando's last time out: The Magic rallied from a 17-point, first-half deficit against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday to force overtime, but fell in the extra frame by a 120-115 final. A pair of free throws from Victor Oladipo gave the Magic a three-point lead with 12.5 seconds remaining in regulation, but Kevin Love hit a tying three-pointer 2.4 seconds later, and Arron Afflalo's fading jumper at the buzzer just missed the mark. Afflalo scored 28 points with nine rebounds and five assists for the Magic, which dropped to 0-2.
New Orleans' last time out: The Pelicans opened their season in defeat, falling to the Indiana Pacers by a 95-90 final despite 25 points from Eric Gordon and a 20-point, 12-rebound, three-block effort from Anthony Davis. The Pacers won thanks to their dominance from beyond the arc and at the foul line, where they outscored the hosts by a combined 23 points.
The last meeting: Orlando fell to the Pelicans, 101-82, in its preseason finale. Only eight Magic players took the floor after halftime, and the team waived four of them after the game, which fact ought to indicate the sense of urgency Orlando felt about the contest. Manny Harris, one of the four players waived about an hour after the final buzzer, led the Magic with 12 points.
