The Orlando Magic requested waivers on combo forward Romero Osby, swingman Kris Joseph, combo guard Manny Harris, and big man Mickell Gladness, the team announced following its 101-82 loss to the New Orleans Pelicans on Friday. The cuts bring Orlando's roster to 15 players, including training-camp invitee Solomon Jones, a Mount Dora native who grew up a Magic fan.
Jones, 29, averaged 4.6 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.3 steals in seven preseason games, including one start. He shot 42.9 percent from the floor. The University of South Florida product has seven years of NBA experience and is thus more prepared to contribute immediately.
Osby, the Magic's second-round Draft choice in 2013, averaged 5.7 points on 45.5 percent shooting, along with four rebounds, in seven preseason games. A power forward in college, Osby had to adjust to playing small forward in Orlando. He said after Friday's loss that he hadn't played that position since high school.
Harris (54 preseason minutes), Joseph (55), and Gladness (37) were longshots to make the team.
