The Orlando Magic opened a five-game, East-coast roadtrip inauspiciously on Monday, falling by a 97-77 final to the Brooklyn Nets. Deron Williams scored 13 of his game-high 20 points in the first quarter to get his club off to a good start, while the Nets slammed the door on the visitors in the fourth quarter by shooting 6-of-11 on three-pointers. Orlando got career-best efforts from Maurice Harkless (16 points) and J.J. Redick (10 assists), but they weren't nearly enough against a hot-shooting Brooklyn team.

Perhaps the biggest factor in Orlando's defeat was its inability to rebound. It snagged a quarter of its own misses, but allowed the Nets to get nearly two-thirds of theirs. On a night when Brooklyn shot well--the Nets finished at 50 percent--the Magic could ill-afford to give up second looks at the basket after forcing an initial miss, but that's precisely what happened.

Earning free throws remains a problem for Orlando. The Magic shot nine free throws the entire night, with six of those coming in the fourth quarter with the outcome already decided.
