Orlando Magic point guard Jameer Nelson missed Thursday's game against the Atlanta Hawks due to soreness in his left knee, according to Brian Schmitz of the Orlando Sentinel. Magic coach Stan Van Gundy said Nelson "tweaked" the knee in Wednesday's victory against the New Jersey Nets.
In 28 starts for Orlando this season, Nelson is averaging 9.3 points and 5.3 assists per game, shooting 39.8 percent from the floor and 30.1 percent from three-point range. The scoring and percentages are the worst of Nelson's career as a full-time starter.
Chris Duhon got the start for Nelson against the Hawks, with Ish Smith serving as the backup.
Schmitz notes Nelson may not be able to participate in the Haier Shooting Stars contest on All-Star Saturday Night. Nelson, former Magic player Dennis Scott, and Marie Ferdinand-Harris are set to represent Team Orlando in the contest.
