Glen Davis calls injury "a freaky accident," isn't upset with Emeka Okafor

On December 19th, Okafor fouled Davis so hard that he sprained the veteran power forward's left shoulder, shelving him indefinitely. Davis said Thursday he harbors no ill-will toward the Wizards center.

When Washington Wizards big man Emeka Okafor fouled Glen Davis with 48 seconds to play on December 19th, he was trying to prevent the Orlando Magic power forward from getting an easy layup with Washington trailing by six. The foul indeed prevented Davis from scoring, but it also sprained the four-year veteran's left shoulder, keeping him out of action indefinitely as he works to rehabilitate the muscles around the sprain. Sans Davis, the Magic head to D.C. to challenge Okafor and his Wizards on Friday.

Davis harbors no ill will toward Okafor, according to John Denton of OrlandoMagic.com. "As a basketball player I accept everything within the game," Davis said on Thursday. "Okafor, we can’t judge his intentions. I just know that it was a freaky accident, I hurt myself and I just have to be focused on getting better."

Before the injury, Davis was Orlando's co-leading scorer, sharing those honors with shooting guard Arron Afflalo. The Magic have lost each of their three games by four points or fewer since Davis left the lineup, and they certainly miss his offense. Magic coach Jacque Vaughn said following Wednesday's narrow defeat to the New Orleans Hornets that he's based Orlando's end-of-game offense on Davis' presence, according to Brian Serra of Magic Basketball Online. Orlando missed its last 11 shots from the field and scored just four points in the final 6:08 of that loss, enabling the Hornets to prevail despite closing 1-of-8 from the floor themselves.
